Blue Heeler dogs are mainly used as working dogs on farms and help to herd livestock, cattle, sheep etc so they are better at herding than they are are hunting and retrieving game during hunting.

Although if you train the Blue Heeler dog properly then they can make great hunting dogs.

My friend who I go hunting with at times has a Blue Heeler and he was able to train that dog to go hunting even though I thought it was not possible.

After the training that dog does an even better job at retrieving game during hunting than a Labrador Retriever but he could be the exception.

Still I've heard of some more Blue Heeler dogs being trained to be hunting dogs so it's possible.

Most times though people use Labrador Retrievers and setters and pointer dog breeds to hunt with.

Yes, Blue Heeler dogs, also known as Australian Cattle Dogs, can be good for certain types of hunting. Originally bred in Australia for herding cattle, they possess qualities that can make them suitable for hunting tasks.

Blue Heelers are known for their intelligence, agility, endurance, and strong working drive. These traits can be advantageous in various hunting activities, such as tracking, herding, and controlling livestock. Their natural instincts and high energy levels can also be beneficial for tasks that require them to actively search, chase, or retrieve game.

While Blue Heelers can excel in hunting certain types of game, it's important to note that their suitability will depend on the specific hunting activity and the preferences of the individual hunter. For example, they might be well-suited for hunting feral hogs or smaller game, but may not be the ideal choice for large game such as bears or deer.

Furthermore, successful hunting with any dog breed requires proper training, socialization, and an understanding of the specific traits and instincts of the breed. If you're considering a Blue Heeler for hunting, it's important to consult with experienced hunters or trainers who can provide guidance on training techniques and the suitability of the breed for your specific hunting needs.
