How far does a range hood vent have to be from a window?

According to building code the range hood vent must be three feet away from any window and 10 feet from any mechanical air intake unless that intake is three feet below the range hoods vent termination.

So as long as you put the range hood vent termination 3 feet away from any window you should be okay.

At my house the range hood and range is about 5 feet to the right of the window and the sink is right in front of the window so it's not a problem.

I've seen a few range hoods in some houses being a couple feet up above a window with the stove directly in front of the window and as long as you keep the curtains away from the stove or do not use curtains on the window in front of the stove you should be okay.

That is if you're not having the work inspected.
