When a road is being banked the banking of the roads is where the edges of the road are raised for the curved roads above the inner edge to provide the necessary centripetal force to the vehicles so that they take a safe turn.

The angle at which the vehicle is inclined is defined as the bank angle.

When you drive around a curve on a curved road you should notice that the outer edge on one side is higher than the other side of the road.

If the road were curved and not banked it could create a dangerous situation so the road is banked or angled up to provide a safer drive around the curved road.
