When a vehicles brakes are working correctly you should hear no sound coming from the brakes when driving but sometimes you might hear a squeak or squeal when stopping.

If you brakes are grinding when driving your brake pads or brake shoes could be not releasing from the brake drums or brake rotors properly.

You could have bad wheel cylinders or a bad brake calipers or a bad brake hose not allowing the brakes to work properly to allow the brake pads to return to their normal position.

The brake pads should come back immediately from the brake rotors after you release the brake pedal.

If your brakes are grinding when pressing the brakes then the brake pads could be worn down to the metal which means they need replaced.

You might also hear the wear indicator on the brake pads touching the rotor when driving so when you hear grinding brakes when driving or stopping it means something bad is wrong with your brakes.

You need to have the brakes checked right away or as soon as possible because it could lead to a dangerous situation.
