Yes you can use povidone iodine on open wounds as it's very safe and effective on open wounds.

Povidone Iodine is bactericidal against Gram-positive and -negative organisms which can kill any bacteria and germs that could cause infection of the open wound.

If the open wound is a small open wound then using the iodine or povidone iodine on the open wound is okay but if the open wound you have is a large open would or very deep puncture would then you should not use the iodine or povidone iodine because it could cause further problems.

If you have a deep enough open wound or deep enough puncture wound you should go to the emergency room for treatment.

They can treat the open wounds more properly and may need to use stitches to close the wound up and stop bleeding and prevent further infection.
