Salt can help unclog a drain but not by itself.

To unclog a drain using salt you need to mix it with a bit of baking soda and then pour that mixture down the drain.

After you do that then you should heat some vinegar up and pour the heated vinegar down the drain after the salt and baking soda.

The baking soda will react with the vinegar and begin to bubble and foam which is what helps to clear the clog in the drain.

Then you pour some boiling water down the drain after you let the vinegar and baking soda work for around 20 to 30 minutes with the drain covered.

The boiling water will then flush the clog out of the drain.

If the drain is clogged by something hard you'll need to remove the trap or remove the pipes to fully clear the clog.
