Yes revving your engine for a few minutes does help to charge the battery faster.

As the engine turns faster the alternator turns faster and as a result the alternator produces more charge.

Every time I've jump started someone's vehicle I would first led it idle while hooking up and then I would hold the gas pedal to rev the engine for a few minutes.

Then I would let off the gas and allow it to idle for another minute and then tell the person to try and start the vehicle.

Sometimes it would but other times it needed another minute of revving my engine to get the car jump started.

After you get the vehicle jump started you should allow the engine to idle for a few minutes and then rev the engine a minute or so and then take off and drive down the road for 10 to 20 minutes before you shut the engine off.

If you shut the engine off too soon the battery may not charge back up properly and you'll need jump started again.

If your battery is completely bad then you'll need a new battery so if you have the money I would recommend after getting jump started to drive to an auto parts store or Walmart to get a new car battery.

Autozone or Oreilly Auto will install the battery for free for you if you buy the battery from them.
