The time it takes for tetanus to develop in your body after becoming infected by the bacteria through an injury such as a puncture wound as in stepping on a rusty nail is between 2 days to 10 days.

Signs and symptoms of tetanus usually appear within a few days and then get worse as time goes on.

If you step on a nail or a rusty nail or get cut by something rusty or any piece of metal and have not had your tetanus shot within 10 years you should go to the emergency room and get a tetanus shot done.

The tetanus shot should be given to the person injured within 48 hours of the injury before the tetanus is allowed to develop.

Not all people will develop tetanus after being injured by something rusty or stepping on a rusty nail as long as the metal or nail doesn't have the bacteria on it that causes tetanus.

After having 3 shots for tetanus you should be immune to it but it would still be a good idea to get a tetanus shot anyway.

Once you get tetanus you cannot be cured of it and around 15 percent of people who get tetanus die even with treatment.

So it's important to be careful and watch your surroundings so you avoid getting injured and make sure you're up to date on your tetanus vaccines.
