When you're in a house or other building you're pretty protected from the lightning.

Unless the house catches on fire from the lightning or explodes you're unlikely to get injured or killed from the lightning strikes outside your house.

That's why when it's lightning outside you should be inside your house or other building to be protected from the lightning storm.

If you remain in the house during the lightning or even inside your vehicle then you should be pretty safe.

It might be possible to get struck by lightning if you're near an open window but that is also very unlikely or if you have an open hole in your house roof to allow sunlight to come in then it could pass through there but very unlikely also.
