An oil light will come on when the oil pressure is too low or too high and if the oil light keeps going on and off it usually means you have low oil pressure.

If your oil light comes on and goes off and then comes back on again you should pull off to the side of the road and shut the engine off to avoid any damage.

If you need too it would be best to call a tow truck to tow the vehicle to a garage to have the vehicle checked out because the tow bill will be much cheaper than replacing the engine or vehicle.

The oil light is telling you there is something wrong and it could be as simple as you needing to add oil because of a low oil level.

So pull over and let the vehicle sit for around 5 minutes and check the engine oil and if it's low add some more oil and then start the engine back up and see if the oil light goes out.

If the oil light keeps coming on then you should get to a garage and have them check the oil pressure.

Your oil pressure sending unit could be bad causing the oil light to come on.
