Where Do Maggots Come From?

I went to take out the trash in in the trash can outside there were several maggots in the trash can.

Where do these maggots come from?

Maggots are basically baby flies. A fly lays it's eggs in a spot where they can find plenty of food to eat on.

The fly lays an egg, and then later it turns into a maggot which then turns into a fly.
