Most babies only need to be swaddled up until around age 4 months of age and after 5 months of age the baby should not need swaddled anymore.

When babies are born they are born with a Startle Reflex which is called the Moro Reflex and the babies will outgrow that Moro Reflex after 5 months of age so they only need swaddled until after that happens.

Not all babies will like to be swaddled though so if your baby doesn't want to be swaddled then do not force the baby to be swaddled and make sure you're not swaddling the baby too tight as it could cause breathing issues.

Out of the 4 babies I had only one hated being swaddled as a baby and now that he's 8 he still hates being hugged and cuddled and always has for some reason.

So it's not required to swaddle a baby and if they don't like to be swaddled then do not worry about it and don't force the issue.
