The EGR valve on a vehicle is there to help control the engines fuel to air ratio so that it runs properly.

When the EGR valve goes bad and doesn't work properly then the bad EGR valve can disrupt the vehicle's air-fuel ratio which can cause the engine to run rough, use more fuel and even sometimes stall at idle.

Your engine may also run rich which increases the fuel consumption because when an engine is running rich it means it's getting too much fuel into the intake.

The main symptoms of a bad EGR valve are rough engine idling or engine stalling or a smell of gasoline and.increased fuel consumption.

The EGR valve can be costly but if it needs replaced then it will improve the vehicles performance but if your vehicle is experiencing any of those symptoms then you should have an OBD tool put on the vehicle to find out exactly what the cause is.
