Yes having a low iron level in your body can lead to having a metal or metallic taste in your mouth and if you do have low iron you need to see a doctor and get the low iron levels fixed.
Having a low iron deficiency can lead to anaemia which causes a metallic or metal taste in peoples mouths.
The low iron level can also cause things such as headaches, sweating, nausea or vomiting, tingling of hands or feet; skin rash, swelling of the mouth.
Other conditions such as diabetes, kidney or liver problems as well as certain cancers, gum disease, sinus issues, side effects of some medicines and even food and other allergies can lead to a metal or metallic taste in your mouth.
If the metallic taste doesn't go away within a day or two you should see a doctor or go to urgent care to get tested for other illnesses.
Sometimes the metal or metallic taste in your mouth is nothing serious while other times the metal or metallic taste can be a sign of a serious and sometimes deadly illness.
So to be safe I would go to urgent care or see your doctor about the metal taste and get tested.
