Yes a thicker weight of oil does increase the engines oil pressure because the thicker oil causes the engines oil pump work harder, which in turn increases the engines oil pressure which is normal.

Most engines run at an oil pressure of between 40 to 45 PSI but sometimes the engines oil pressure may be as much as 50 to 65 PSI which is normal for some vehicles.

My truck runs between 50 to 60 PSI sometimes when I'm driving down the highway which is normal and nothing to worry about.

However if the engines oil pressure gets to 85 PSI and above and doesn't go back down then you could have a clogged fuel filter or clogged or failing engine oil pressure regulator and it should be checked out.

Usually though the problem with high engine oil pressure is due to a clogged oil filter.

Make sure you change your engines oil and oil filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles to prevent too high of oil pressure and also to prevent engine damage as well as potentially destroying the engine and engine seals.
