The time it takes for a swallowed object to pass through the stomach and digestive tract is between 24 to 48 hours.

Most things that kids, toddlers, or even some adults may accidentally swallow are not that harmful and will eventually be pooped out once it goes through the digestion process and goes through the digestive tract.

Some kids may swallow things such as toys, coins, safety pins, buttons, bones, wood, glass, magnets, batteries or other foreign objects.

If the kid swallows a battery, larger toy, magnet, glass, safety pin, needle or something more dangerous then the child might need surgery to remove the dangerous object that the child has swallowed.

If it's something not dangerous or toxic such as a coin, button, piece of plastic from a toy or something else that is not toxic or harmful then the object will eventually pass through the child's body through the poop.

My son swallowed a penny before when he was 2 and he passed it through his poop a few days later after I took him to the emergency room.

They said it wasn't harmful and to just wait it out and it should come out through his poop which it did.
