When traveling on a long road trip it's best to get a good nights sleep overnight and then leave out early in the morning a few hours before daylight.
I always make my road trips after leaving a few hours before daylight in the morning hours so that I can get a few hours of driving in on the road trip before daylight.
Then I continue the rest of the drive through the day and usually arrive at my destination or at least at a hotel or motel before dark sets in.
Then if I'm traveling to a destination that is a few days away for a drive then I stop driving as it gets dark or before it gets dark and stay in a hotel or motel and then freshen up, get a shower and get some rest in and then head back out early in the morning once again.
It's much safer to driver during daylight hours on road trips especially when you're not sure exactly where you're going.
It's much easier to see the road signs and directions when it's daylight out than it is during the dark.
