Yes getting sick or getting the cold or flu virus can cause harm to the baby during the pregnancy.

When you are infected with the cold or flu virus or any other virus you increase the risk of the baby dying or having other complications with the birth of the baby as well as potentially other birth defects.

When you're pregnant you should do your best to avoid getting sick with the flu or cold or other viruses and if possible stay away from places such as schools, daycare centers and even work during the cold and flu season.

Or when the cold or flu is about to spread around to people avoid those places.

Stay hydrated and get plenty of rest and increase your intake of vitamin C to prevent or at least try to prevent catching the cold or flu.

Sometimes babies are perfectly okay in the womb and the mother usually has no complications with the pregnancy.

However having a virus while pregnant does increase your chances for complications during the pregnancy and birth of the baby.

So if you do get the flu, cold or other virus get regular checkups on the baby and yourself when pregnant until the baby is born.
