Having an MRI done for a dog is not cheap and is pretty expensive and you need a vet to refer you to a specialty vet center to do the MRI because most smaller vets do not have the MRI equipment to perform the MRI.

The average cost for an MRI for a dog is around $2,500.00 and can be as much as $3,000.00 depending on where you have the MRI done.

If the MRI is deemed medically necessary by the vet then most pet health insurance will cover the cost of the MRI as long as the condition that led to the MRI is not an already existing condition.

That $2,500.00 or $3,000.00 for the MRI covers the cost of the MRI scan, anesthesia and monitoring as well.

If you think your dog might need the MRI then it can be worth the cost but your vet would have to agree that it needs the MRI before you will be referred to the specialty vet to get the MRI scan done.
