Long term pacifier use is bad for toddlers teeth if they are allowed to use the pacifier past ages 2 and 3 years old and above as the child's teeth is growing in.
But as an infant the pacifier will not harm the infants teeth as they are growing in.
But after age 1 the pacifier really should be taken away before the child gets addicted to the pacifier because once past age 1 it gets harder and harder to get rid of the pacifier and get the toddler off the pacifier.
Some children use pacifiers till age 4 which is okay but once the child turns age 4 they really should have the pacifier taken away.
If that means you just take the pacifier away and let the child scream and throw a fit then that is what you'll have to do.
But it's best to take the pacifier away from the toddler before age 2 and preferably by age 1 to avoid the fight over the pacifier.
The pacifier is good at preventing SIDS and helping calm the baby but after age 1 the child really no longer needs a pacifier and it can interfere with the child learning to speak.
