When you're having a fire and you see yellow smoke coming from the fire the yellow smoke is caused by not enough oxygen getting to the fire to allow it to burn properly.
Insufficient oxygen leads to the fuel not burning properly which then causes yellow smoke.
So by giving the fire more oxygen the yellow smoke should go away or once it gets enough oxygen on it's own the yellow smoke should also go away and begin burning properly.
The conversion of carbon into carbon dioxide and water is impeded due to lack of oxygen to the fire and then free carbon, or soot, appears as smoke and yellow smoke appears.
