High wind can cause wind turbines to over generate electricity which can burn up the wind turbine generator and send too much voltage through the power lines.

Another thing that could happen during really high winds and especially during a tornado is that the high winds or tornadoes could rip the massive wing turbine blade or blades off and send them flying through the air which can cause death or injury to people or animals near the wind turbine.

During high winds the wind turbines are usually stopped automatically before the winds get too high to avoid any possible damage to the wind turbine and to people and animals.

So some high wind is okay for wind turbines but during a very high winds which are 55 MPH and above the wind turbine has a device that automatically shuts down the wind turbines to avoid any damage to them.

Then when the wind speed drops again the wind turbines are automatically started up again.
