The average lifespan of a car engine is around 200,000 to 300,000 miles depending on how good you take care of the engine.

If you keep up on the engine oil changes and make sure the engine is getting cooled properly and fix any coolant leaks or oil leaks then the vehicles engine should last from 200,000 to 300,00 miles and even sometimes as long as 500,000 miles.

If you do not take care of your cars engine and replace the engine oil and oil filter every 3,000 to 6,000 miles then the engine may only last as long as 100,000 to 160,000 miles before it fails.

The engine needs proper lubrication to lubricate the main bearings, rod bearings and the rest of the engine to keep it from wearing out and seizing up.

If the engine oil doesn't get changed it breaks down and gets dirty and doesn't lubricate the engine properly.

I have a car that has 300,000 miles on it and the engine is still going very strong and I've always kept up on the engine oil changes and other repairs and it has lasted me a long time.
