Catalytic converters do increase the engines horsepower because catalytic converters create back pressure on the engine which is really not very good for the engine at all.

Catalytic converters restrict the exhaust flow from the engine so the engine actually runs less efficient and you lose horsepower from the engine.

So by removing the catalytic converter from your vehicle you should see an increase in horsepower as a result.

Once I removed my catalytic converter from my truck I noticed a big increase in my engines horsepower so yes if you're allowed to remove the catalytic converter in your state and do not have emissions testing or inspections then you should remove the catalytic converter.

If I had a new truck or vehicle I would also remove the catalytic converter as well.

Catalytic converters that are clogged up can also cause a decrease in horsepower so by removing the catalytic converter you will increase your engines horsepower.
