As long as you live in a suitable climate for the amaryllis bulbs you can plant amaryllis bulbs outside and they will do just fine.

During really cold weather the amaryllis bulbs can freeze and die so if you have amaryllis bulbs outside you should bring them inside the house during freezing temperatures.

So if you live in a colder climate you should grow the amaryllis bulbs in pots and set them outside during warmer weather but when it gets cold and below freezing you should bring the amaryllis bulbs inside to keep them from freezing.

If you live in a warmer climate you can plant the amaryllis bulbs in the ground and leave them outside and they'll thrive just fine.
