Ignition control modules should last 50,000 to 100,000 miles or more.
However when I do a tuneup of my vehicle and replace the spark plugs, ignition coil, spark plug wires and distributor cap and rotor I also go ahead and replace the ignition control module.
You don't want to wait until that ignition control module fails completely and leaves you stranded on the side of the road.
A bad ignition control module can cause your engine to completely shut down and then you won't be able to start the vehicle up again.
If you're having trouble starting your vehicles engine or it stalls a lot then the ignition control module could be going bad and should be replaced.
I would recommend replacing the ignition control module at 50,000 miles to 100,000 miles as preventative maintenance to prevent a break down which is not fun nor cheap to have a tow.
I replace ignition components and parts before failure to prevent breaking down and it helps increase the performance of the engine.
