A fuel pump usually doesn't just quit and will usually give you warning before the fuel pump does go out.

A fuel pump that is going bad will start to lose fuel pressure so it will cause the car to lose power or be hard to start.

You can have the fuel pressure tested by a mechanic with a fuel pressure testing tool to see if the fuel pump is going out or not producing any fuel pressure at all.

Some signs and symptoms of a bad fuel pump in a vehicle are hard starting of the car, engine sputtering, engine surging, loss of engine power under load, poor acceleration and even a failure of your car to start at all if it's not getting any fuel.

A fuel pump that is going bad can also produce a loud whining noise inside the fuel tank which means it's failing and needs replaced.

Sometimes you might just have dirty or clogged fuel injectors or a dirty or clogged or partially clogged fuel filter.
