The cause of a car hesitating when accelerating can be caused by a number of different things.

Some things that can cause a car to hesitate when accelerating are dirty or clogged fuel injectors, water in fuel, old gasoline, bad spark plugs, bad ignition coils or bad ignition coil, failing ignition control module, bad spark plug wires, bad distributor if your car has one.

Or even low fuel pressure due to a dirty or clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump that is losing fuel pressure.

If your car is hesitating or has the check engine light on you should have a diagnostic test run on the car with some testing equipment by a good shop to find out the exact cause.

If your engine is misfiring on one of the cylinders or more than one cylinder then it could be either bad spark plugs or bad ignition coils or spark plug wires.

When replacing spark plugs you should always replace the spark plug wires as well and even all the ignition coils which is what I do on my car that has the ignition coils on the spark plugs.

It's just preventative maintenance that is well worth it because I have to remove the ignition coils anyway when changing the spark plugs so I just order new ignition coils as well and change them all out but keep them just in case one new ignition coil fails and I need to reuse the ignition coils.
