Sometimes a vehicles engine will stall and cut off due to vapor lock in the fuel system which can happen sometimes during the hot summer months after filling the fuel tank.

If you fill the gas tank up and the car decides to shut off after awhile then it's likely you have a vapor lock problem which usually resolves itself.

Also make sure you have the gas cap on securely and not half open because that too can wreak havoc with the fuel system and the cars computer and may not be reading the vapor correctly so the cars engine cuts off.

Or you could have partially clogged fuel injectors or a bad fuel filter or you might have gotten some contaminated fuel.

Another possibility is that your fuel canister which is a charcoal canister could be going bad which can also cause your cars engine to shut off.

The vehicles charcoal fuel canister absorbs the fuel vapor that would otherwise vent out to the atmosphere, causing pollution.

The vehicles fuel charcoal canister is part of the car's emissions controls so it can too mess with the vehicles computer system if the fuel vapors are not being absorbed properly.
