When you buy a new RV the RV depreciates pretty fast and the average RV depreciates as much as 25% & 40% within the first year.
For example lets say you bought a new $20,000.00 RV and then wanted to sell that RV within 2 years time then n that 2 years the RV you paid $20,000.00 for would only be worth as much as $10,000.00 to $15,000.00
So if you plan to just RV once in awhile and may not want to RV anymore then renting an RV for your RV adventures would be a better option instead of buying an RV.
However if you plan to keep your RV for the rest of your life and camp in the RV often enough and don't plan to sell it in the future then buying an RV would be worth it.
