When your spark plugs are bad and not firing correctly the bad spark plugs can cause a misfire in your engine which can then cause your check engine light to come on.

If your check engine light comes on I would have Autozone or a mechanic or other parts store do a test of your computer system to pull up codes to see what is causing your engines misfire.

Autozone and most other parts stores will do a free check engine light test to see what is going on.

If your coil is good and your spark plug wires are good then replacing the spark plugs would be a good idea as they can cause misfires.

If in doubt just replace the spark plugs as they can be bought for $25.00 or less in some places depending on make and model of vehicle.

If it's been 100,000 miles or more since your last spark plug change then it's likely time for new spark plugs.
