I've tried peppermint oil and it does deter skunks from my yard and has kept them away and another benefit is that the peppermint oil also keeps mice away too.
Another way to deter and keep skunks away from your home or yard is to soak some cotton balls in some ammonia and place the ammonia soaked cotton balls wherever the skunks are hanging around.
Placing mothballs around areas where skunks are hanging around will also repel skunks too.
Although I've had good luck with the peppermint oil and ammonia soaked cotton balls to keep the skunks away.
Or if possible you might want to shoot the skunks and kill the skunks if you're allowed to shoot where you're at.
