When you're eating food and it decides to go down your windpipe instead of your throat and into your stomach then the food gets stuck in your windpipe.
If the food does get stuck in your windpipe your body should react and you should begin coughing immediately to help bring up the food out of your windpipe.
But if the food cannot come up and it's blocking your airways then you begin choking and need to get some help to dislodge the food from your windpipe.
However if you're breathing and the food is just small that got lodged in your windpipe then eventually it will dissolve.
I once got a small piece of candy lodged in my windpipe and I couldn't get it to come back up but I was still breathing fine so I was okay.
