What is the difference between a 22 long and a 22 long rifle?

The only difference between a 22 long and a 22 long rifle is the length.

The .22 L ammo uses a .22 LR case but is a shorter bullet while the .22 LR bullet is 0.975 inches long, and a .22 L is 0.800 inches long.

So essentially the rifles just use different size bullets to fire and that's the only real difference other than one being longer and shorter than each other.

But the rifles are nearly the same except for the bullets they use.
