As a kid I used to live on a farm with my parents and we had a shallow hand dug well that was around 25 feet deep and I used to drink the water all the time.
That was was very good and refreshing and drank that well water everyday and I'm still alive and never have gotten sick.
As long as the shallow well water is not contaminated the well water that comes from shallow water wells is very safe to drink and will not harm you.
Most water wells are deeper than 25 feet now though because the water seems to be better at deeper depths and it prevents the water well from going dry.
But if you have a shallow well then it's perfectly safe to drink the water from it as long as it's not been contaminated.
You can have the shallow well water tested if you want too just to be sure it's safe but it likely is very safe to drink it.
