There usually is a grace period allowed for paying your real estate property taxes depending on the state you live in.

Most states allow between 2 to 3 years of missing your real estate tax payments before they foreclose on the home and sale it at a tax sale.

I've been 2 years past due before on my real estate taxes and then just paid them when I got the money but I did have a $40.00 penalty of my real estate taxes for being late.

Your state or county website should have a section where it states how long you have to pay your real estate taxes and also on your real estate tax bill should say how long you have to pay your taxes before foreclosure.

In my state I can go up to 3 years without paying the real estate taxes before they go to foreclose on my home and even then I can pay the full amount plus any late fees due and keep the house if I pay within 3 years before it goes into the foreclosure.
