You can place a gas meter near a window but probably not right under the window but it can depend on your local regulations and what you natural gas company specifies.

My natural gas meter is 3 feet away from my bedroom window which is where the natural gas company ran the natural gas line and installed the meter.

For most regulations the meter has to be a minimum of 3 feet away from the window but it can vary depending on your location and natural gas company.

Some regulations also state that the gas meter must be in the front of the house or within 10 feet of the corner of the home and you must have at least 3 feet of clearance for working around the natural gas meter.

Put the gas line to your home as close as possible to the service line.
