Can I plant succulents in sand?

You can use sand for planting succulents but since sand does not retain water properly the sand should not be the only thing you plant the succulents in.

You can add some gravel to the bottom of a pot and then add some sand on top of the gravel and then use some regular potting soil to plant the succulents in.

The succulents need some potting soil to help it retain water and get the needed water and the gravel and sand will help excess water drain out away from the succulents.

If you're planting the succulents in pots make sure the pots have at least some small holes to allow for drainage of water.
