Due to the risk of the baby suffocating from the blanket and to reduce the risk of SIDS a baby should not have a blanket to sleep with until they're at least 12 months of age.

Once babies get to 1 year of age and above they can have blankets to sleep with and soft toys in their crib with them but before age 1 it's not safe to let the baby have any soft toys or blankets in the crib with them because risk of SIDS and suffocation.

You can keep your baby warm by putting them in some blanket sleepers or footed Pajamas and turn the heat up in your home a litter higher than normal when you have a baby under 1 year old.
