Sometimes you can see roundworms and tapeworms in a dogs poop if you look at the poop close enough.

Other types of worms that the dog may be infected with such as hookworms and whipworms are usually not detectable in dog poop.

When a dog is infected with worms you can sometimes even see the worms come out in the dogs vomit.

A common symptom of a dog having heartworm is coughing which gets worse as the dog becomes infected more with the heartworm.

Other symptoms of worms in dogs are loss of appetite, low energy, diarrhea, vomiting, pot bellied appearance, weight loss and dull coat.

Sometimes you can see worms in dog poop but not always.

When your dog has worms they may also start scooting around on their butt as the worms can make their butt itch.

Other signs of worms in dogs include.

Weight loss accompanied by a marked increase or decrease in appetite.
Distended abdomen, or 'pot-bellied' appearance.
Lethargy.
Vomiting.Diarrhea/chronic soft stools.
Chronic coughing.
Dulling of coat and/or hair loss accompanied by skin irritation/inflammation.

Roundworms look like spaghetti and may be several inches long.

Tapeworms aren't usually seen in dog poop, but their egg sacs, which look like grains of rice, can be found in dog poop or sticking to a dog's behind.
