Medicare will sometimes pay for short term nursing home care costs.
That is if the patient needs to be in a nursing home after a hospital stay for a short period of time to fully recover and then eventually return home.
But for long term nursing home care Medicare does not cover those costs and those cots would come out of pocket or through some other medical insurance.
The nursing home that someone is going to go into can let you know exactly what types of payments they accept and can help you get coverage for the nursing home care for long term.
But Medicare generally covers short term care which can allow enough time to get the other insurance or payment methods in place for someone to be covered in long term nursing home care.
