When applying ointment to your eye you apply the ointment to the inside of the lower eyelid but be careful not to allow the tube of the ointment to touch the eyelashes or the eye.
Gently pull your lower eyelid down and look upwards, then hold the tube of ointment above and gently squeeze the ointment out and apply it alongside the inside of the lower eyelid.
Then to spread the ointment out over the surface of the eyeball blink your eyes a few times and then ointment should be applied to your eyes.
