Usually yes most people do lose at least a little bit of their ability to taste things when they lose their smell.
Your sense of smell actually relates to the way you taste things so when you cannot smell what you're tasting the taste can either be gone or not as good as it once was.
However most people without their sense of smell can still taste things such as sour, salty, sweet and bitter tasting foods.
Some people still have all their ability to taste without the smell but it can prevent you from tasting things when you lose your ability to smell.
