Wrong mixtures of coolant can cause a vehicles engine to overheat so yes you need to make sure you use the proper coolant for your vehicles engine.

Also mixing too much water in with your coolant can dilute the coolant too much which makes it harder for the coolant to cool the engine off properly.

If your coolant mixture isn't correct then you need to drain the old coolant and flush the coolant system out and replace the coolant with the proper mixture of coolant.

After replacing the coolant with the correct mixture the engine should not overheat anymore and if it does then your water pump may be failing or you have bad engine thermostat.

Also make sure your engines cooling fan or fans are coming and working correctly as the engine also requires those fans to cool the engine off properly.
