Yes if there is a nuclear explosion and you look directly at the nuclear explosion especially during the intense part of it then it can cause you to get temporary blindness or even severe damage to the eyes retina.

So it's always best to not look directly at a nuclear explosion unless you're wearing special sunglasses or even a welding helmet.

Also depending on how close you are to the nuclear explosion you could also get severe skin burns just from the blast of the rays.
