That is to keep everyone safe and prevent the Lyft driver from falling asleep at the wheel.
The Lyft rules state that you must take a 6 hour uninterrupted break for every 14 hours of driving you do and those driving hours do not have to be consecutive as long as you take the 6 hour uninterrupted break you'll be fine.
