During birth of a baby the placenta should come out of the woman after the baby is born.
The women's placenta is delivered as part of the afterbirth with a small gush of blood, within a few minutes to a half hour after the baby arrives.
It's vital that the placenta come out otherwise it could cause problems with the mothers health and sometimes it needs to be removed by the doctors.
The doctors will also examine the placenta to make sure it's intact and that nothing has been left behind in the uterus.
