Run capacitors uses the charge in the dielectric to boost the current which provides electric power to the motor to keep it spinning.

The run capacitor is used to maintain the charge to the motor and a start capacitor stores a charge to boost power to the motor when it needs to start.

Without the start capacitor the motor would just hum and without the run capacitor the motor could also just hum or run slow.
