A homeowner is allowed to install their own septic tank and septic system but you must first apply for a septic tank permit and get a percolation test done on the soil.

You can save a lot of money doing the install of the septic tank and septic system yourself and a permit for a septic tank install costs around $900.00 plus another $200.00 to $500.00 for the percolation test of the soil depending on your location.

Your soil must drop 1 inch of water level through the soil in a hole within 60 minutes and if not then it may not pass the percolation test.

Once it passes the percolation test then you can be issued the Septic Tank install permit.

As long as you get the necessary permits and have the percolation test done and approved then you can buy a septic tank and the pipes and install it yourself.

But even having a pro septic tank installer do the job of installing the septic tank only costs around $3,500.00 to $4,000.00 so it's not too bad.

But if you want you can do the install of the septic system yourself.
