Yes the owner of the life insurance policy can be the beneficiary so if you take out a life insurance policy on yourself then you can be the beneficiary and have things in place where upon your death someone takes the death certificate and contacts the life insurance company who then will pay out the funeral costs to the funeral home.

You can also be the owner of a life insurance policy with someone's consent such as your parents etc and then you can be the owners of the life insurance policy and be the beneficiary.

If the life insurance is on someone else or your parents then you need that persons written permission and they need a medical exam before they'll issue the life insurance policy.
